Risk Reaps Reward

Ember's new life as a mutant was a lot less exciting than it sounded, especially considering she didn't have any dazzling powers like the other prison escapees did. Most of the time Ember stayed locked up in the abandoned warehouse, while the others were always out gathering food and supplies. At least they could protect themselves if they ran into mutant control trouble. None of the other mutants even seemed to like Ember, excluding Glitch, who occasionally brought back a book or two for Ember during their heists.

In fact, she was reading the most recent book right now; a book about the different variations of architecture in San Francisco. Ember lay sprawled out on the dirty floor, lying on her stomach as she flipped through the pages, absorbing the words as quickly as she would a picture, before turning the thin paper over. A small stack of other books sat beside her, though with all the spare time on her hands, she'd already read them all. With a sigh, Ember paused from reading to look around the big, empty warehouse.

Sally had a tendency to disappear for days if not weeks on end. She did not like being cooped up anywhere for too long and this place had a tendency to be more like a psychiatric ward than a gathering place for run away mutants. Levi was off gallivanting with his male escort, glitch was obsessively being annoying with her damn computers and Ember, well she didn't know what she was good for to be honest.

Well, she was back. Back in her cage, but this time she was dwelling over some schematics in her room. Her laptop open on her fine cashmere sheets. She had a pin board with photos of an array of objects, such as painting, jewels and collectibles, plus some notes. The thrill of her next heist was looming over her, feeding her hunger for the next big score.

After all, this is what she did for a living. But with only a small window of opportunity to acquire a new acquisition, she was running out of time to come with a full proof plan to get in and out scotfree. "Damn it!" she said, a little bit louder than normal. Her 7th scenario went haywire before it even began. Her fourth plan seem the best option, which didn't say much. But to be honest, this needed a second person and Levi wasn't here to help. She was screwed.

Ember glanced up from her book again, this time because she heard a shout from the other room. She thought she was the only one here, so she was surprised to hear that it was, "Nightshade?" It had sounded like her voice, but Ember was still uncertain. She stood up and walked away from her books and towards Nightshade's make-shift bedroom. She stopped just short of the door however, unsure if she should be disturbing her roommate. "Everything alright in there?"

She couldn't even bring herself to knock. She didn't see Nightshade very often, but based on the way Impulse treated Ember, she was afraid Nightshade hated her as much as he did. Maybe if she could just find a way to be of use to her mutant friends, things would be better.
